There is a sale going on at Spitfire Audio these days, so I decided to pull the trigger on BBC Symphony Orchestra.
The reason behind this is that I was looking for something less in-the-face than EastWest Hollywood Orchestra. Despite its age, it's still a super library and the new, brilliant Opus engine really helps a lot. But, as the name suggest, it's made for those punchy sounds out of a blockbuster soundtrack.
Therefore, I hoped BBC SO would cover the other end of the spectrum: the more lyrical and quiet passages.
A little disclaimer: I am still downloading it, but at least I started exploring the "Core" version (limited to one mic position). This, here, is a little promising thing I did this morning to test it out.

Patches used are:
BBCSO Violins 1 - Maj 2nd Trills
Violas - Legato
Celli - Long Col Sordino
Horn - Legato
LABS
Frozen Strings - Violin
Scary Strings - Cool
LABS strings are sent to an FX bus with slow autopan, delay and a very thin reverb... in that order.
BBCSO instruments were not processed at all.
On my master bus there are only a Waves RS56 and an L3-LL.
